Soaring Costs Force Some Renters To Choose Between Shelter
And Food - 4-2011
Huffington
Post article NEW YORK -- Around 10 million American households --
or one in every four families that rent their homes -- could have to choose between
paying rent, buying groceries or keeping current with bills, according to a report
released Tuesday. The number of households spending more than 50 percent of their
income on rent and bills jumped by 2.6 million over the last decade, according
to a Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies report. Economists generally consider
"affordable" rent to cost about 30 percent of a tenant's income.

Selfish Sanitation Department bosses from the snow-slammed outer boroughs ordered
their drivers to snarl the blizzard cleanup to protest budget cuts -- a disastrous
move that turned streets into a minefield for emergency-services vehicles, The
Post has learned. Miles of roads stretching from as north as Whitestone, Queens,
to the south shore of Staten Island still remained treacherously unplowed last
night because of the shameless job action, several sources and a city lawmaker
said, which was over a raft of demotions, attrition and budget cuts. Read

Monserrate’s
Ex-Chief of Staff Is Arrested By
FERNANDA SANTOS NYTimes It looks as if former
State Senator Hiram Monserrate may not be the only one with a temper problem.
Hours before Mr. Monserrate began boxing practice (more on that later), his former
chief of staff, Wayne Mahlke, 48, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court for possessing
a forged police placard and for failing to obey a police officer — after hurling
an insult at the officer. The city has been cracking down on the use – some people
say abuse — of parking placards since 2008, when Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg forced
agencies to cut their number of placards by 20 percent and the New York Police
Department created a unit to reduce their misuse. article

streets are in worst condition than we have seen in decades, why, because our
hard working Sanitation Commissioner was salt happy & was spreading way more
salt than necessary (to get that overtime in, poor training, or perhaps NO training)?
Now our great DOT Commissioner has her hands full, but do you think she going
to lose any sleep over it, heck no, she will continue her busy day pretending
she is out there taking care of our streets, (the street conditions speak for
her ;) in the meantime we the tax payers (who pay their BIG salary) end up with
damage on our vehicles & have to risk our lives riding our bicycles through
war zone conditions as they waste our tax dollars repaving good streets... and
no matter how destructive they service us, they have excuses for everything! Enough

WHERE IS that 4.4 BILLION Dollar SURPLUS?
Our
NYC politicians seem to find the time to play the bongos? WHERE
IS OUR 4.4 BILLION Dollar SURPLUS? Mayor
Bloomberg is digging a deeper hole for us, so he can waste more of our Tax money!
He's now planning to waste Obama's Stimulus money! And
then our Government wonders why this economy is collapsing! Mr
Bloomberg, I hope you & are reading this, the tax payer has has something
to tell you, our NYC Government (and your misleading MEDIA)... WHAT HAPPENED to
that 4.4 billion dollar surplus you were boasting about (which all came by hurting
us). You are still getting this money from us, so why is there a deficit now?
Clearly our money is not being managed properly! As
if we have not been struggling enough since Bloomberg became Mayor, he (along
with our greeedy Council) increased our property taxes AGAIN! Face
it, anyone can do what you are doing (raising money at the expense of the taxpayer).
You may be successful in your industry, but you are totally failing as a NYC Mayor.
To be successful as a Mayor, you need to devise a method of increasing the cities
revenue without hurting the very people who make NYC what it is! Here is some
advice, start by ending the millions being wasted by agencies like DOT, (why havent
you), I'll tell you why, because you advocate these wastes & are too busy
celebrating, or too busy having little chit chats & parties to feed your ego
(instead of working hard every minute of the day like we do) and when you realise
that our city needs money (which u waste anwway) you take the easy route, RAISE
PROPERTY TAXES, Violations, close Firehouses, etc., you use & HURT us to raise
revenue & then you have the media feed us false information that you are doing
such a great job & everyone a favor!
GET CREATIVE because as you see, that 4.4 billion dollar
surplus went faster than it came in & now you are turning to us again, hurting
the NYC tax payers!WE CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE, we only have so much money in our
small pockets, you may not want to admit this, but we are the modern slaves to
NYC's mis managed agencies & politicians! Get
creative, generate revenue without hurting us only then can you call yourself
a "Sucessful Mayor"! FLB

Solution to the US Financial Crisis
Bailing
out these Lending Institutions in NOT the answer! Our
government has failed us & is about to fail us again. They are about to make
us pay once again for their errors. This system has many underlying problems and
there is no quick fix!
Instead of our government bailing out these mega companies with billions or our
dollars, there are 2 simple solutions to avoid this which will keep homeowners
from losing their homes and stabilize this failed real estate lending disaster: 1-
Reduce all loans to a very low, or no interest rate. 2- Eliminate or reduce
property taxes. The
government, as well as all these financial experts, are totally ignoring these
2 simple solutions (which will keep the economy stimulated) and they are also
ignoring how property taxes are directly effecting this disaster and other underlying
economic disasters! Our gov needs to step back and reform this system and finally
make some intelligent decisions! FLB

- The
HOMELESS epidemic stems from NYC property Tax increase The
Major Cause Of NYC Middle & Lower Class struggle...
NYC
has a $4.4
billion surplus at the expense of the NYC tax payers. It's no secret how difficult
is has become for the working class to pay rent in the NYC 5 boroughs, what most
are not aware of, is NYC is to blame. Why, because NYC increases the Real Estate
Taxes every year at a far greater rate than the working class wage increase! Tenants
blame the owners, BUT THEY NEED TO GO AFTER NYC! Owners are forced to increase
rents in order to pay these astronomical R/E taxes, insurance bills, gas, electric,
maintenance etc. Many apartment owners are indeed working class, who have saved
up for many years to own a piece of income producing property, only to find themselves
giving not only all the profit to NYC instead of making a profit, but also having
to use their personaly savings before NYC confiscates it from them. Sadly, many
have lost thier homes & have ended up in homeless shelters because they lose
their properties to NYC! They increase r/e taxes until the owners are paying more
than the income & then they take it away from them... something is clearly
wrong here! All they say to them is, "this is the law". Well that is
wrong, we are all suffering for their mistakes (or corruption)! Here is the problem:
NYC increases R/E taxes = owners
must increase rents = working class can not afford
= Working class struggles or becomes Homeless = NYC
needs "more" money for shelters, programs etc.= NYC
increases R/E taxes... it's an endless downward spiral and
we will all suffer until the system colapses (and we understand that the NYC Council
sets the property tax rates)! Well it's finally time for this to change! None
of us should be paying these high rents but we are! And to add more insult to
injury, with such a high surplus, we still find so many of our streets in hainous
conditions & trying to get anything repaired is like pulling teeth & when
do make any repairs, they are done poorly!
MAKE A CHANGE! If we don't speak out, nothing will ever
change. Contact our NYC Council
who sets and votes for property tax rates increases
go to NYC.gov
call & email all NYC Council until something is done! One call will never
change anything, repeated calls. letters & emails will!

- DOT
wasting MILLIONS of our TAX dollars!
NYC,
the "Greatest" city on the planet, should have the best roads, well
why doesn't it? One example of why it doesn't & how DOT is wasting MILLIONS
of OUR tax dollars is because instead of reparing, they are destroying perfect
streets, see for yourself! Witness DOT ripping up a perfect street (with not even
one defect), only to repave it with a worst street & leaving thousands of
NYC streets which are in DESPERATE need of repair, unrepaired! Who pays for this,
WE DO, our TAX DOLLARS, through higher taxes, higher rents & list goes on
& on! The street we are reporting should have never been touched, several
residents made an effort to prevent this from occuring by contacting the Councilman
& the Cummunity board, but they did nothing! Is the Commissioner Janette
Sadik-Khan aware of the corruption, or is she a part of it? Too many
good streets are being ripped up & replaced with worst ones, why and why are
newly paved streets done so poorly, with all sorts of irregularities & seams?
This will never end, unless "WE"do something to stop it! NYC tax payers
will no longer tolerate this, a total REFORMATION is needed & "WE"
all must fight to get it... if we wait around for NYC to correct this or any other
issue, it will never happen! SPEAK OUT! Send a message
to the Commissioner today, or call her directly (212) 676-0868! Then file a complaint
with Dept
of Investigation (212) 825.5900 -"Our
government is a government of the people, for the people , and by the people.
Thus, if you do not challenge or hold the government accountable, you endorse
them".
This
photo shows the New Paving Quality of DOT, the previous road was perfectly flat,
smooth & did not have all these defects! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS and NYC Tax Payers
should no longer tolerate this!
MAKE
A CHANGE! If you witness this, contact our NYC Comptroller
& follow up. This is our city, if we don't speak out, nothing will ever change.
In addition contact our NYC & State officials, go to NYC.gov
call & email all of NYC agencies & officials until something is done,
unfortunately once will never change anything in NYC, repeated calls, letters
& emails will! It's up to us to
make a change! Our
government is a government of the people, for the people, and by the people. Thus,
if you do not challenge or hold the government accountable, you endorse it.
